Silence is Golden
Acrylic, film, mechanism, gold foil
2022
Silence is Golden is my reflection of the idea of "representation". "Silence is golden" is a proverb that has coincided with different times and cultures in history. This cross-cultural resonance made me think about attitudes toward silence and what silence itself is.
In a time of deglobalization, authorities and people have a complex relationship besides simply representing and being represented, can anyone truly stand aside? How can the silent majority maintain itself in the midst of chaos? When the boundary between "representing" and "being represented" is erased, is the apparent silence a choice, or is it a sign of reluctance?
