We Are the Extension of the Land

Mixed Media Installation

2023

"We Are the Extension of the Land" is a reflection on the complex relationship between humans and the environment, specifically on the effects of colonization, human settlement, and climate change on the land. The artwork is inspired by a journey to Iceland, where the artist witnessed the stunning beauty of the country's natural landscapes, as well as the impact of human activity on the environment.
The artwork is a call for de-colonization, a recognition that the land is not something to be conquered, exploited or dominated, but rather an extension of ourselves, a part of our identity and existence. It challenges us to rethink our relationship with the environment, to move away from the idea that humans are separate from nature, and to recognize that we are part of a larger ecosystem that is inextricably linked to our survival.

Through a series of mixed media pieces, the artwork explores the impact of human settlement on the land, from the destruction of forests and the extinction of species to the pollution of water and air. It also reflects on the effects of climate change, which is altering the landscape and threatening the survival of many species, including humans.
